San Francisco Pedestrian Accidents High Already: Continuing to Rise

Just when we thought that San Francisco has seen enough pedestrian injuries and fatalities, a new study is released indicating that this trend is continuing and unfortunately pedestrian fatalities are on the uprise. I am pleased to report that San Francisco plans to implement new measures to improve pedestrian safety. This effort, however (in part), overshadows the fact that “the number of pedestrians killed this year is on pace to surpass the death toll from each of the two previous years.” It’s a bitter pill to have to swallow; according to the San Francisco Police Department, San Francisco, a…

Concord Teen Faces Vehicular Manslaughter for Killing Pedestrians on the Sidewalk

David Rosen, 17-years-old, struck and killed a 41-year-old man and his 9-year-old daughter up on the sidewalk as they were on a family bike ride one morning. Rosen lost control of his SUV Cadillac Escalade when he struck the bicyclists, sheared off a fire hydrant and careened into the brick facade of a medical office building next to the Contra Costa Fire District’s training center, which ended in this tragic Concord fatality in April a few months ago. Recommendations and facts in the case are being reviewed. Police have recommended vehicular manslaughter charges. Vehicular manslaughter normally carries a prison sentence…

It’s Summertime: Drive Safely

Summer is here and with it comes warm summer days, a new free-spirited attitude and, of course, driving vacations. Even if simply driving around town, the happiness of summer has a tendency to cause more distractions than normal. We should be urged to continue to drive safely, and especially be on a closer lookout for children this time of year though. As schools are out, more children will be out roaming the streets–with or without their parents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) collects data throughout the year and has found that: “In 2009, 4,092 pedestrians were killed…

Another Pedestrian Hit-and-Run in San Francisco

I feel that it is my duty as a member of the San Francisco Bay Area community to keep the issue of hit-and-run collisions in the news, hoping that the culpable parties can be brought to justice and hoping that, if they are prosecuted, this will be a deterrent to further hit-and-run drivers. As a San Francisco Pedestrian Accident Attorney, I learn of way too many accidents to pedestrians. The most frustrating pedestrian accidents are when the person causing harm flees the scene. I always ask if the injured person may have suffered less harm had the person who…

Two San Jose Pedestrian Deaths Occured Within 12 Hours

I am sad to report that two pedestrian deaths occurred within 12 hours of each other in San Jose. The first was Friday, February 10, 2012 when a woman was struck and killed while walking on Meridian Avenue. She has been identified by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office as Carol Trevino, 57, of San Jose. The driver of the vehicle that hit her remained at the scene and was not arrested. Investigators do not think the driver was drunk and it’s unclear what caused the crash. The second fatal pedestrian accident occurred the following day on Saturday, February 11,…
