Weekend Motorcycle Rides in Marin County

Every Saturday and Sunday morning while most residents of Marin are still sleeping, avid motorcyclists are already out on their weekend morning rides. If you live near Shoreline Highway, you can almost set your clock to the motorcycle engine echoes as they come by right on time. Of course, over the years I have let the squids take off earlier and have a half hour lead. If you want to ride with the post Sunday Morning Ride group, just swing by Starbucks in Tam Valley at around 8:00 a.m. If you want to be a part of the cherished mayhem…

Claude Wyle Interviewed on NPR about the Plea Bargain for Chris Bucchere

A San Francisco software developer pled guilty to felony vehicular manslaughter after crashing his bicycle into a pedestrian and killing him. The San Francisco D.A. says it’s the first felony conviction in the country for killing someone with a bike. Despite pleading to a felony, 37-year-old Chris Bucchere won’t spend any time in jail. He’s getting 3 years probation and 1,000 hours of community service. Is that a fair sentence? Here is what reportedly happened in this case—as I’ve discussed before on two different blog posts. Bucchere was riding his bike downhill in the Castro district at around 30 m.p.h.…

San Francisco MUNI Bus Safety Guards Reduce Injuries and Should Be Required

We assume that all MUNI busses in San Francisco are built with the strictest attention to safety, right? The San Francisco Municipal Railway system is an integral part of San Francisco’s infrastructure and MUNI busses transport thousands of people to and from work and home, and they keep our commerce alive and flowing smoothly. Of course, San Franciscans trust that our public transportation is safe and we travel confidently each time, right? What about the operators of the MUNI busses and trains? They are well trained to do their job, aren’t they? Many San Franciscans as well as visitors rely…

Lead Industry Dodges Accountability for Injuries To Children

The lead paint industry remains successful in avoiding responsibility for the harm it has caused hundreds of thousands of children as well as the millions or billions in property damage. As a San Francisco Personal Injury Attorney representing those harmed and killed by defective products, I can speak first hand. In April of this year, the U.S. Centers of Disease Control and Prevention recalculated its estimate of the number of children in America with dangerous levels of lead in their blood. The CDC’s new child lead-poisoning number is 535,000, announced in the midst of lawsuits against the lead companies that…

Video Captures Taxi Driver Pedestrian Hit-and-Run Accident

Yes, it was raining and the visibility was not so good for this taxi driver, who was apparently in a hurry. But that doesn’t give him the right to blatantly hit a pedestrian and then drive away as if he ran over a bundle of clothes. Preferring to put this whole pedestrian hit-and-run behind him, and to continue on with his typical evening, this taxi driver acted as if he would get away without any repercussions. Luckily, karma prevailed and a surveillance camera that was mounted inside the taxicab displayed the real truth of a pedestrian death on this October…
