Ride Your Bicycle To Boost Your Immune System and to Avoid COVID-19 Germs in The Gym

As the days get longer and the temperature gets warmer, many of us look to alternative modes of transportation such as biking to work, walking to the train, or just enjoying a casual walk or ride on the weekends. I personally have been avoiding the gym although I have always done my best to wipe down machines before and after I touched them.  Although we can never fully protect ourselves, with the recent uptick in cases around the Bay Area, the Santa Clara County Public Health Department (SCCPHD) has released the following information regarding COVID-19 so you can stay informed of news and recommendations for staying safe in your day to day life.

I have been feeling that sense of isolation and general stress from the pandemic, and I have found that the best way to stay healthy and to boost my immune system has been to take a good long mountain bike ride. With so many people staying home and working from home, the trails are less crowded, and I don’t feel like someone is going to sneeze on me from so far away. And bicycle riding is good for the head, as well as the legs, lungs and heart. If you still need to go to the gym, try to follow basic safety protocol.

And, although most of our day to day lives are no longer the same, with many working from home, cancelling travel, and staying inside, we can all do our part to minimize risk of infection and stop the spread of the virus should we decide to venture out on that walk or bike ride in the coming weeks.

Remember, social distancing is still recommended, especially for individuals that have compromised immune systems, or other health deficiencies that make them more susceptible to infection.

Additionally, bringing wipes or hand sanitizer with you to work, the gym, or wherever you happen to be, can ensure that the surfaces you’re touching are clean before you put your hands down anywhere.

And if you are headed to a meeting, event, or gathering – call ahead and see if its been cancelled. Many government bodies are calling for mandatory cancellation of large gatherings, and private organizations are beginning to cancel events and plans as well. All of my lawyer meetings have been cancelled this year and all trials are continued for at least the next few weeks, in all of the San Francisco Bay Area counties. Check before you go.

Above all else – stay safe. Don’t put yourself in harms way – and help everyone across the world work towards recovery and elimination of this deadly virus.
