I am sad to report that two pedestrian deaths occurred within 12 hours of each other in San Jose.
The first was Friday, February 10, 2012 when a woman was struck and killed while walking on Meridian Avenue. She has been identified by the Santa Clara County Coroner’s Office as Carol Trevino, 57, of San Jose.
The driver of the vehicle that hit her remained at the scene and was not arrested. Investigators do not think the driver was drunk and it’s unclear what caused the crash.
The second fatal pedestrian accident occurred the following day on Saturday, February 11, 2012 when a 77-year-old Milpitas woman, identified as Lien Tran was killed by a car as she crossed the intersection of Oakland Road and Rock Avenue.
Both fatal pedestrian crashes are under investigation and mark the city’s first and second auto-pedestrian fatalities of 2012.
What caused these pedestrian accidents? Were the drivers of the cars driving negligently? Or were the pedestrians not following the rules?
My condolences go out to the families of the deceased. And I have to ask. Why have there been so many pedestrian fatalities in the San Francisco Bay Area lately? This epidemic needs to stop. Someone needs to be made accountable and we as a community need to improve pedestrian safety.
